MANILA, Philippines — More than 4,000 legitimate tricycle franchise owners in Valenzuela City received cash aids from the Department of Energy (DoE) through its “Pantawid Pasada Program” or commonly known as the Public Transport Assistance Program (PTAP).

Some 4,419 members from the 41 Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (TODA) will get the initial cash transfer of about P150 as beneficiaries.

The program has been implemented in the city through the Valenzuela City Transportation Office’s (VCTO) Tricycle Regulatory Unit (TRU) VCTO head Jay Valenzuela said.

The initiative requires beneficiaries to hold updated franchises for their units, Valenzuela said.

However, TODA members who registered with their office on April 27, 2011 and thereafter are excluded from the program.

The program was created through Executive Order 32 of Pres. Aquino III, with an initial allotment of P450 million to assist jeepney and tricycle operators in the country amid the escalating fuel prices.
