Philippines: Independent Unioil Expands Service Station Network

Unioil will expand its service station network in Caloocan City,Pasay, Las Pinas, Quezon City and Makiti.

Luisito Medina-Cue Jr., GM of Unioil, said they have started the construction of two of the six stations at Edsa in Caloocan City and the other one is in Banawe in Quezon City. "We're looking at six more additional stations this year," Medina-Cue said.

He said the company is allocating P60 million to P90 million budget for the expansion plans since each station to be built would cost them around P10 million to P15 million. According to him, financing for the expansion plans would be through bank borrowings and internally generated funds.

Its diversified interests include the operation of retail gas services stations, marketing and blending of lubricants, oil trading, terminal operation and marketing of bitumen, making it an important independent petroleum company.

It also owns a modern storage and handles facilities located in Lucanin, Bataan which facilitates the efficient transfer of products from Bataan to Sta. Ana in Manila. These storage facilities have 18 storage tanks with a total capacity of one million barrels. In anticipation of the increase in demand, construction is now ongoing to expand it to 22 storage tanks with an estimated capacity of 1.5 million barrels.

Unioil Philippines has a total of 40 service stations mostly located in Luzon.
