Unioil Gives Back

Living up to its commitment to be a socially responsible and environmentally-aware company, Unioil Petroleum Philippines Incorporated (UPPI) is celebrating its 42nd founding anniversary with a series of projects and activities starting with today's clean-up drive along the shoreline of Manila Bay.

Some 100 UPPI employees have teamed up with the Pasay City Solid Waste Management Office and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in cleaning up the stretch of Manila Bay particularly in the area near the Cultural Center of Philippines (CCP).

UPPI General Manager Chito Medina-Cue Jr. said the clean-up drive is part of the company's effort designed to bring Unioil closer to the community and the vision of its founder with this year's theme “Making a Difference, Unioil Gives Back.”

“We decided to do the clean-up drive as to give life to our mission and responsibility not only as one of the country's leading independent supplier of petroleum products but also environmental awareness, preservation and community support,” Medina-Cue said.

Wearing T-shirts proudly printed with the company's logo and mission, the UPPI employees started the clean-up at about 7 in the morning collecting garbage without much fanfare and bringing it to the dump truck of the Solid Waste Management Office for final collection before being brought to the landfill for disposal.

Solid Waste Management Office Chief, Christy Eshmawi said they are happy to work with UPPI in the said project.
“We expressed our gratitude to Unioil for this project. It only goes to show that they are not only aware of their role as an oil supplier but also their role in environmental preservation,” Eshmawi said.

Medina-Cue also added that aside from the clean-up, UPPI has also lined-up several projects including a feeding and outreach program.

Unioil employees are also collecting old newspapers whose proceeds will go to a charitable institution to be identified in coordination with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

To foster greater camaraderie among its employees, a mini-Olympics will also be held within this month.

“Through these projects and activities, Unioil is just giving back to the people and the community what they really deserve,” Medina-Cue said.
Earlier, Unioil has instituted a series of price cuts for gasoline, diesel and kerosene that has become the benchmark for local oil prices.
Founded in 1966, Unioil has since led the way in innovative petroleum solutions, establishing itself as a highly reliable business partner for specialty oil, lubricants and fuels.

Currently, Unioil's diversified interests include the operation of retail gas service stations, the marketing and blending of of lubricants, and most recently, the marketing of bitumen.

Currently, Unioil is in the midst of a P90 million expansion program that will see the construction of half a dozen service stations in Metro Manila.
Plans are also afoot for the construction of additional retail stations in neighboring provinces.
