Unioil cuts pump prices

Independent oil player Unioil Petroleum Philippines Inc. on Sunday slashed the pump prices of its petroleum products in response to a Palace directive to maintain oil prices in Luzon while it remained in a state of calamity.

Unioil said it had cut the prices of its diesel by P2 a liter; unleaded gasoline by P1.25; regular gasoline by 85 centavos; and kerosene, by P1.50, effective 10 p.m. Sunday.

PRICE regulation

With the way the economy is now, perhaps the government should take stock of what needs to be prioritized, particularly in terms of granting some form or relief to the poor and the middle class. And, to some extent, perhaps it can reconsider leaving things to chance primarily by letting so-called market forces determine or even dictate the prices of commodities.

Free-market forces do not always operate to the advantage of consumers, particularly the poor. In many instances, it tends to favor businesses over customers, especially if a strong and reliable infrastructure for fair competition is still to be established. Ultimately, in the matter of fair trade over free trade, I will take the former anytime, even on Sundays.

Sen. Francis Pangilinan called on Wednesday for a boycott of Shell, Caltex and Petron unless they follow the lead of Unioil and reduce the prices of their oil products.

He said that Unioil’s decision to cut the price of their gasoline and diesel by as much as P4.75 a liter showed that there was still room for the Big 3 of the local oil industry to reduce their prices also.

“If Unioil can reduce its prices, then the Big 3 could afford to reduce theirs also because they have a deeper pocket,” he said.

Unioil Petroleum Philippines Inc. reduced the prices of its Diesel by P2.28 while P2 on Kerosene

 

Consistent with its stand of providing the public with inexpensive yet high-quality petroleum products, Unioil Petroleum Philippines Incorporated (UPPI) announced another rollback in the prices of diesel and kerosene sold in its retail stations.

With the latest rollback, Pure Diesel Plus B1 prices for (non-PUV lanes) will stand at P26.69 per liter from last month's P28.97 and P35.68 for Kerosene from the previous P37. 68.

Pure Diesel Plus B1 for PUV lanes will stands at P24.94 per liter.

“We are now lower by PO.54 to P2.24 per liter in our diesel and kerosene products compared with other players”, Medina-Cue reiterated.

Unioil has been leading oil players in instituting price adjustment for its products including several "big-time rollbacks" last year.

Members of the Independent Philippine Petroleum Companies Association denied reports linking them to any agreement with other oil companies regarding pricing mechanism of their petroleum products as oil prices continue its downward spiral in the international market.

Independent Philippine Petroleum Companies Association (IPPCA) Chairman Fernando Martinez said they have not in any way entered into an agreement with any oil companies on the issue of local pump prices.

IPPCA members would like to clarify once and for all that we are not involved in any agreement with other oil companies concerning prices, whether as individual companies or as an association, Martinez said.

Unioil partners with Silver Tire Traders

In a move that showed how much confidence it have on one of the country’s leading independent oil player, a local lubricant distributor has signed up two contracts with Unioil Petroleum Philippines Incorporated (UPPI) as its distributor in the Mindanao region starting with North and South Cotabato.
